Last Saturday, while doing yard work, I was trimming the grass around the edge of the house when I accidently hit the cable TV line. To my astonishment, it did not take much to affect the line. It didn’t look bad, and I couldn’t see any damage, however that’s when the horror week started…
Let me explain, my wife loves watching her favorite TV shows like most, but she records everything, gets into it and loves to talk about all of the shows at work. To me, it’s far worse than any sports person talking about the big game. As well, when you have three children, they have to have their TV, Internet, and Phone. They would “Die” without them; it’s amazing how times have changed since I was a kid.
Now we have the Comcast bundle, the full deal. We have our TV, Phone, Internet and as I found out our Home Security all coming in through that little cable TV line. I’m not sure how they get it all in there, but it’s there.
I’m out on this beautiful Saturday, doing yard work, getting some sun, etc. As I’m trimming the grass around the house, I nick the cable TV line. I stopped, checked, and didn’t see any damage so I continued on my journey to finish my yard work. Within minutes, I was very politely and lovingly informed by my wife and children that the internet was down. I say politely and lovingly, because I can’t write was actually said in this article… After checking all connections, calling to be sure they didn’t turn off our cable or that Comcast was not having some issues, I was able to surmise that it had to be something wrong with the cable TV wire. I called Comcast back and they said they had an open appointment for Monday, however since it was Saturday and being a man, I decided I could fix it. Therefore I didn’t take the appointment, which I would later come to regret.
I’m off to the hardware store. I didn’t have a clue when starting this journey, how much it would cost to buy the supplies and tools to fix a coax cable. After spending nearly $ 60.00, I’m headed back home. I tried several times to no avail, even went back to the store several times for different brands of connectors, still no success. With my wife continuing to talk lovingly to me, “We” decided to call Comcast back. However by this time, their next appointment was on Friday, six days away, even so “We” decided to take it.
Over the next few days I found out just how much my family really does love me, such warm and caring words… That was until Wednesday, we come home to find the house had been broken into. The police believe it was from some teenagers, who may have found out from our kids that we didn’t have an alarm that week. They didn’t take much, some jewelry, my daughters stereo, laptop, etc. That was a fun night for the family.
Well that Friday, the tech did show up and fixed our cable. We are back up and running, somewhat happy again. As the tech was about to leave, he told me of a product that would have saved me from this whole week. I think they should change their name from TrimmerGuard to Peace Keeper, as that is truly what they are.
